Participates in training activities and programs. Inspects personal gear, equipment, apparatus and station facilities to ensure properand safe operation and take steps to ensure that observed deficiencies are correctedand necessary maintenance is performed and observe or be advised of deficiencies.

Respond to fire alarms and other emergencies as required; extinguish fires and protect life and property against the hazards of fire; participate in fire prevention activities; exercise prudent use, care, and maintenance of fire/rescue apparatus and property; drive fire/rescue apparatus. Prepares, plans and executes both classroom and practical environment to train public safety students to become Swiftwater Rescue technicians in the following topics: Hydrology, Dynamics of moving water, Site survey, Hazard identification, Protective equipment, Rope tactics, Boat-based techniques, Survival techniques and rigging systems, Low-head dams, Risk/benefit analysis, Operational experience with high-lines, Working knowledge of knots, rigging, and mechanical advantage systems. Swimming challenges, Swiftwater rescue board drills, Identifying high probability search areas, Rescue and recovery procedures, Body characteristics in moving water, Triage exercises, Water-bound victim extrication exercises, Strainer drills, and Search strategies and techniques.

Dive Team Coordinator:The Charter Township of Shelby Fire Department, which operates a Rescue Diving and Swiftwater Rescue Program, will appoint a Coordinator who: Shall review and alter diving guidelines annually and as requested by team personnel; Shall review and approve equipment selection, and use, as submitted by team personnel; Shall create and submit for approval annual year budget suggestions; Shall submit a quarterly report to the Training Officer; Shall have operational authority for the Water/Dive Rescue Team’s diving program, including the conduct of training and approval of training dive plans; Shall ensure compliance with this document and all relevant regulations; and will maintain a current roster of team personnel.
