As Fenton’s Chief of Issue Advocacy, Erik Olvera leads the organization's largest practice devoted to social change.He develops and executes high-impact, multi-faceted communications campaigns and strategies for our partners, and specializes on climate change, the criminal legal system, education, health care, immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, poverty, racial equity, social justice and more. Erik is also one of the agency's lead crisis communications strategists, and has worked closely with leading groups and organizations to protect their brands, reputations and to successfully navigate around potential issues.Erik, a well-known communications strategist, has developed strategies for more than 2,000 high-profile issues, legislation and litigation, including: helping design the public education strategy that resulted in the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court marriage equality victory; campaigns that helped block conversion therapy on young people in states across the country; and strategies to combat climate change by introducing audiences to renewable solutions.Erik is a native of California’s Central Valley, where he started his career as a journalist, and, at one time, worked undercover as a farm laborer for six months to write the award-winning Season in the Sun series for McClatchy newspapers.
