I was responsible for handling bugs and change requests reported on string resources in our products and to verify and deliver the solutions. Daily tasks included to investigate, correct or delegate, test, verify, and deliver to application development teams and software platform, securing the quality in localized resource files for up to 67 languages. To keep track of market and customer requirements I worked closely with customer project managers, operator requirement managers, technical account managers and other stakeholders around the world. I identified and solved localization issues or disagreements, causes and consequences, to reach the relevant corrective/preventative actions. The tool we used for reporting and tracking bugs and changes was Jira-based and I processed some 3000 issues annually. I also worked closely with development teams, editors and interaction designers to ensure that the texts produced (strings, help texts, instructions, etc.) held a high and localizable quality. Securing a qualitative source control results in a better localized material, and greatly decreases the amount of localization bugs.

I provided the project and line organizations with relevant statistics and analyses of large amounts of user data in relation to language usage. The data was derived from Google Analytics as well as from other sources. The purpose was to provide a foundation of statistical facts to support decision making and prioritization. As an example, one result of my work was to reduce the number of supported languages, thereby reducing annual maintenance costs by 17%. I primarily worked with pivot tables in Excel to process the data.

The Localization expert is involved in all parts of the text and content creation and the localization process. By controlling the quality and localizability of the source material, a higher quality outcome is secured in the localized material, so I took part in defining and maintaining important textual aspects like style, tone, terminology and localizability of the content we created. I was the super-user and guru for the content management system used to maintain all string resources including localized strings, content and context descriptions, GUI context limitations, and various other metadata required to maintain and deliver with high quality. I supported global software teams with content creation, review, validation of English source material, instructions regarding localizability and how to produce source material for localized products and services, how to best communicate on a limited area, and how to best arrange and structure textual content on the available screen real estate. Furthermore, I supported other editors and interaction designers with the technical aspects of text production, including recommended usage of variables, date/time formatting, how to plan for and implement bi-directional languages, and how to plan for reusability of localized material.

Among other projects, I planned and led the work to move the UI localization responsibility for Symbian products from another development site to Lund, achieving the objective to greatly improve processes, reduce operative expenses, and shorten lead times.

As Localization Project Manager, I planned and managed UI localization projects from beginning to end, supporting up to 80 languages. This included working closely with various internal stakeholders such as project managers, software developers, product managers, editors, tech writers, and terminologists, as well as external stakeholders like translation vendors, translators, and language specialists. The job included planning tight schedules with multiple parallel deadlines, and communicating with technical and non-technical people alike. I also effectively edited UI string resources securing the localizability of the text. As admin super-user of our main CMS tool for translation handling, I also took on the part of training and supporting users in how to use the tool for all different types of user groups.

INK was a translation agency with several large companies on the client list. At INK I worked as a project manager handling all parts of a localization project, including quotation, tendering and invoicing, customer and vendor relations, desktop publishing and layout, successfully securing qualitative and timely deliveries.

At Lund University I worked at the International Office. My job was to provide support and information to international and domestic students. The information to international students was related to anything involved with studying at Lund University, housing and accommodation, Swedish student life and cultural aspects on studying in Sweden. I provided guidance and information to Swedish students interested in studying abroad. I worked closely with representatives from the various departments, and with the housing offices. The job was a people management position that included database administration and improvements.

In the NST Copenhagen sales office, I was an active part of the sales team, promoting and supporting language technology applications and services. This included customer relations and customer support, for B2B customers and end consumers alike. The job included attending trade fairs and exhibitions to demonstrate the technology and solutions.

Voss, Norway

At the NST headquarters in Voss, I worked as a project manager and head of a development group. We did research and development of language technology for the Nordic languages. It was a multilingual working environment with Norwegian, Swedish and Danish colleagues. The main objective was to plan and develop applications and services based on language technology such as speech recognition, speech synthesis, complete medical dictation software, text management and proofing tools.
