My role as an education assistant is to help implement the specialist programmes the Riverton Education Support Centre staff have planned and developed to meet the needs of students who attend the centre. All students who attend the centre have an Individual Education Plan developed for them as students with special needs find it difficult to generalise their learning to different settings. I typically would work within the ESC department however do occasionally support teachers and their mainstream classes. One day a week I work specifically with one or two children during integration days with mainstream classes, where I will essentially provide close support to our ESC students in a mainstream class to help them transition and learn life and social skills needed to progress further in their lives.

At Get Active WA I plan and deliver a 6-week basketball program for children with sessions based in Canning Vale and Thornlie. With children ranging between 3 and 9 years old, I cater each session to their ability and experience level, offering fun and developmental basketball sessions.

I performed the role of a fitness operator at Intense Health clinics across 5 locations in Perth (Subiaco, Claremont, Duncraig, Applecross and Perth CBD). Intense Health utilizes specialist ARX Resistance equipment to deliver high intensity, effective and safe exercise in 20-minute sessions.

This was a FIFO role based at Roy Hill Mining Camp, where as a health and fitness coach I had to maintain gym and pool functionality, cleanliness and safety. I taught daily classes such as core classes, early bird classes, boot camps and yoga and relaxation classes. These were available for any of the 1500+ residents at the RH mining camp and often I would have to cater and alter classes to suit people of different ages, genders and abilities. I also provided 1 to 1 personal training sessions during my 10-hour shift pattern and conducted gym inductions (with the inclusion of taking blood pressure readings).

River Island Blackpool is a high street fashion and clothing retail store based in a busy shopping centre. I worked at two sites during both the closure and reopening of the new, up-sized store. I have experience cash handling on the tills, stock take, unpacking, security tagging and shelving deliveries as well as working on the shop floor speaking to customers and helping in any way they may need. I was stationed mainly on the Men’s floor however routinely worked on Boys, Girls (under 5yrs and under 12yrs) and Women’s departments.

We regularly catered to large events like viewing parties for the World Cup, Boxing fight nights, UFC, WrestleMania, Farmers Weekend etc. My performance working efficiently in often a fast-paced working environment resulted in winning numerous Company Awards.

Located in Preston, this club boasts teams from the U12 age group all the way to the Men’s category competing in local, regional and national leagues. I coached the Men’s First Team who competed in the MABL Premier Division, holding training sessions one to two times a week with games being played at least fortnightly, if not every week.

Leyland, Lancashire

I was the Basketball Academy Coach to under 18-year-old college students participating in regional tournaments and AoC League and Cup fixtures. I also worked closely with other college staff such as personal tutors to ensure students excelled in and prioritised their studies and maintained their high attendance records. Whilst working here I completed my MIDAS driving test which allows me to drive up to a 13-seater minibus, necessary to transport the team to away fixtures etc.

It was essential to uphold a high level of cleanliness in all facilities and to help out during non-sporting events such as community car boot sales. I was also responsible for (dis)arming alarms on the premises before and after facility use.

Whilst studying at university I had the opportunity to be the head coach for two men’s teams at a Chinese volunteer-run basketball club, with volunteers, a photographer, team managers reporting to me. The first team played in the Hyndburn League for two seasons. I was able to effectively coach and communicate with people whose second language is English, even learning some limited Mandarin in the process. Going through video analysis of their game performances helped to break down these language barriers as I was able to show them areas to improve and what works well. I sought out and gained sponsorship and created and organised a club tournament featuring multiple Chinese teams from around the UK. This included hiring out a venue, referees, table officials, organising food stalls, trophies, medals and printed club t-shirts to give away. Tying in with a module at university, I also created a club development plan addressing the club’s sustainability and plans for growth.
