About Jernej Stritih

A forest engineer by training and a leading expert in the field of international and national environmental and sustainability policies, including climate change and nature conservation, institution building and stakeholder participation. During his 25 year career that started with NGO campaign of mapping illegal dumpsites and mountain forest ecosystem research, continued with positions in government, private sector and international organisations in the transition context, he has demonstrated a broad spectrum of experience and knowledge. He has successfully managed government institutions, the REC for CEE (5 years) and several technical cooperation projects funded by EU and other donor organisations (2002 – 2009). He has been involved in several international negotiations on behalf of Slovenia and the REC, including substantively leading the Slovenian delegation in Copenhagen, Cancun and Durban. In this period he contributed actively to the EU strategy that proved successful in Durban. He received negotiation training from the Sustainability Challenge Foundation and has managed successful communications and presentations in numerous cultural contexts from local Alpine communities to policy leaders in Eastern Europe to side events in Cancun and Durban. As part of his work, he has introduced obejctive based management framework methodology in a number of contexts from regional development in Slovenia and Croatia to rural Cyprus.
