The purpose of these regional workforce improvement grants is to increase awareness and participation among high school students in northwest Arkansas. The construction of buildings is the fastest growing industry in NWA, and more skilled workers are desperately needed. Increasing hands-on, construction-related skills and offering a pathway to higher education allows students to quickly transition into high-wage, high-demand occupations. The duties of the Coordinator are to recruit, hire, and manage all adjunct faculty members in the Construction Technology Department. Another vital operation to the success of the degree program is to advise students on which classes to take, submit requests for course substitutions, should there be a need, and to assist students with any and all paperwork related to financial aid appeals. Additionally, Assisting faculty members with classroom issues, and supporting faculty in carrying out effective classroom management is pivotal to developing a staff that feels supported, important, and valued. Additionally, I teach CST 1313 Materials of Construction, the first construction core class for the Construction Technology degree program. The ultimate goal is to keep students engaged, and moving towards the goal of completing a degree in the field of construction management within the local workforce.
