• Main scientific achievements include: Development of bio-physics techniques and sensors to study the physico-chemical properties and behaviour of biological molecules and soft materials (particularly protein self-assembly, relevant to the study of neuro-degenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease). In particular, integration of biosensors into or at the interface of microfluidic devices (see http://www-knowles.ch.cam.ac.uk for more details about the group and activities).• Teaching, supervision and demonstration responsibilities.• Organisation of seminars.

• Main scientific achievements include: Development of MEMS based acoustic biosensors for Point-Of-Care (POC) diagnosis. Developed new strategies and designs to improve the performance of current sensors, including integration with microfluidics.• Teaching and demonstration responsibilities.• Organisation of seminars.

• Main scientific achievements include: co-discovery and development of the Solid on Liquid Deposition (SOLID) process; development of multifunctional materials and structures using the SOLID process and Parylene deposition; a reactive plasma deposition process for nanostructured pyrite (FeS2) based solar cells; and an active protection layer for bio-medical application. • Project management: managed 10 academic and industrial projects including: FP6 project MULTIPOL, coordinating team (see project). • Grant applications: initiated projects and co-ordinated proposal writing (above €9M. total funding) including: FP7 project PARYLENS (see projects), FP6 project MULTIPOL (see projects), and national and university funded projects.• Teaching and demonstration responsibilities.

• Main scientific achievements include: co-development of thermo-optical switches, gas sensors (O2 and CO2) and planar optical integrated circuits using UV sensitive Sol Gel technology.• Responsibilities: In charge of the microfabrication process of optical sensors and devices based on UV sensitive Sol Gel technology. Responsible of the clean room (Class 1000)

• Main duties: maintenance and repair of ion implanters. Operation and process tuning of ion implanters.• Main achievements: proposed process improvement projects implemented in collaboration with the engineering team.• Mentoring: Mentor for the technician’s up-scaling program.

• Main scientific achievements include: participation in the of development of a biomedical microcapsule for intestinal exploration (EU Project, INTERREG). Prototype tested clinically at Strasbourg hospital, France.• Responsibilities: In charge of the conception of the positioning sensor and the integration of the modules (camera, biopsy, drug release). • Demonstrations of microtechnology lab.
