I currently work on a SaaS email marketing application for a company based near Birmingham Airport. Starting out as a Front-end developer working primarily on the User Interface I've transitioned towards working across all aspects of the application. I'm particularly enjoying working in PHP and MySQL with some of my favourite experiences being contributing towards substantial projects involving analysing large amounts of email traffic and RESTful API usage. I'm striving to build upon my experience in this area and to transition full time into a backend developer role.I am part of a small team responsible for the development, maintenance and support of an application used by large marketing agencies representing hundreds of leading companies & brands to send business critical mail.

I worked as a Front-end Developer for a branding and digital agency based in St Paul’s Square, Birmingham. I was responsible for the development and maintenance of websites for large clients. I primarily built CMS sites in Wordpress and Lemonstand ecommerce. I also dabbled in CodeIgniter PHP; building an in-house app. I was particularly recognised for my implementation of emerging HTML5 and CSS3 techniques and for championing and introducing Version Control across the development team.

I worked as a freelance developer providing services primarily to the Charitable Sector. A large part of my work involved rescuing projects that had gone off track or where the initial developers had left at sudden notice. Bringing order to other developers code often within short timeframes and small budgets was a massive challenge that taught me countless lessons. I also built brochure websites and ecommerce sites using Magento Community Edition & OpenCart.

I was responsible for writing promotional content, promoting events at colleges & Universities and growing the mailing list. Working alongside the in-house IT and web team sparked my fascination with web development and spurred me into learning the skills myself. The Drum is also where I first became involved in Birmingham’s charitable sector, through working with organisations such as Ishango Science Club and the Black History Foundation who held their annual events there.
