The Commission own's, manages and maintains the Barker House in Edenton, NC. The House was the home of Penelope Barker, the first woman in the colonies to have the courage to organize a public protest against British oppression. The event, now known as the Edenton Tea Party, is the first recorded political action by women in what is now the USA.Climer was appointed to the Commission by Governor Perdue in 2009 and retained by Governor McCrory. Climer was elected chairman of the Commission late in 2009 and reelected chairman in 2011 for a second, two-year term. After deciding not to seek reelection as chairman, he agreed to serve as Treasurer during the 2014-15 term. -
