Having started a Business Diploma in NIHE (now UL) an opportunity arose for me to take over the family pub in Tipperary Town. Due to illness I could not complete the course in that year and opted to run the pub on a full time basis. The business was trading strongly at the time and due to my involvement in local clubs and organisations I was able to improve and expand it. Following a great business period which included Irelands involvement in soccer World cups and European championships and other major sporting events we looked at developing the food side of the business which turned out to be quite successful but ultimately had a negative effect on drink sales. Availability and development of an adjacent premises led to us opening Bakers nightclub in 2001. This was a vibrant and exciting business for 10/11 years but due to a huge increase in insurance premiums and large excesses we closed the nightclub in 2016. This ultimately led to the closure and voluntary liquidation of the entire business in April 2017. Since the closure of the Business I have been working in Noel Ryans bar in Tipperary Town as a barman. Flexible hours allowed me to complete a University of Ulster course and I was conferred with an Advanced Certificate in Management Practice in July 2018 in Belfast. In October 2019 I joined Sheridans Cheesemongers at their outlet in Dunnes Stores,Jetland ,Limerick where I am currently employed as a Cheesemonger.
