Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Responsible for business development for the IOM’s Dominican Republic Mission. Specific projects included training Dominican Justice Department staff on new human trafficking and migration laws and projects to protect the human rights of Haitian migrants. Supported the capacity and institution building of the National Anti-Trafficking Network, a coalition of civil society organizations combating trafficking in persons in the Dominican Republic, by providing material and logistical support. Organized international conference titled “Best Practices for Combating Human Trafficking.” Conference featured presentations by government officials and NGO representatives from 18 different European, Latin American, North American and Asian countries.

Represented Trinity College Haiti Program in conducting survey of Haitian population living in the Dominican Republic organized by the IOM and FLACSO. Supervised creation of Haiti Program’s educational web site www.Haiti-USA.org. Researched waste water management issues in Cuba and Haitian-American communities in Boston, Atlanta and South Florida for the creation of an educational web site.

Directed four-person research team for feasibility study on micro-enterprise development project. Wrote grant proposals for small and micro-enterprise development projects in the Caribbean and acted as primary liaison between Caribbean Project and private foundations. Managed budgets of, supervised implementation of and prepared grant reporting for organization activities. Traveled to Caribbean to conduct research and coordinate development programs. Responsible for securing speakers and choosing conference topics for the Haiti, Cuba and Caribbean policy-focused conferences. Managed $500,000 annual budget funded by USAID and private foundations. Organized logistical details for conferences and Congressional briefings.
