About Jerome Nikolai Warren

I obtained my PhD in economics from the University of Cologne in Germany, achieving high honors (magna cum laude). I have researched and published on the cooperative ecosystem of Italy, focusing on the emergence there of a distinct class of multi-stakeholder cooperatives in the form of social and community cooperatives. Beyond this, I am lead editor of two volumes from Routledge on cooperative economics. The first of these, the Routledge Handbook of Cooperative Economics & Management, is available in an Open Access format. The second, entitled Global Cooperative Economics & Movements, will be published by Routledge in 2025.Previously, as a postdoctoral fellow at the Belgian Royal Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, I led a chair established by the Belgian sovereign wealth fund, SFPI, to advise on developing a sustainable view of the firm, encompassing both ecological and social dimensions.

    This was a post-doctoral fellowship at the Belgian Royal Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, an institution celebrating 250 years of service this year, in Brussels, where I led a chair established by the Belgian sovereign wealth fund, "Société Fédérale de Participations et d’Investissement" (SFPI). In this position, I advised the fund and other institutional players towards developing a sustainable view of the firm, viewing sustainability in both ecological and social terms. My research emphasized the importance of networks, both inter-personal business networks and clusters, in realizing a sustainable transformation.

    Since completing his Master's degree, Jerome Warren has been working on a research project on the relationship between democracy and the economy, for which he has already undertaken several research trips abroad, for example to Italy and Argentina. Mr. Warren's dissertation deals with three main aspects: firstly, an evolutionary study of democracy as an organizational and decision-making structure. This is based on a historical study of Greek democracies. To this study, Mr. Warren intends to apply aspects of evolutionary game theory, information theory and text/rhetorical analysis.
