About Jerome Thomas

My current areas of application expertise are mostly in C#, JavaScript/Node.js, SQL and modern (ES5 and 6), but I have a working competency with Node, Vue, Go (GoLang), MongoDB and MySQL.In addition to application development, I have also been responsible for developing tools, build servers, and pipelines to support automated testing and deployments.I believe that all technologies are tools invented to aid in solving problems. Almost no solution is purely technical, so constant evaluation of the current tools, assumptions and communication are needed to produce the best solutions. I am an avid learner of new coding languages and believe that the "why" behind anything new is as important as the "what". In my position as a Team Lead and Director, I have a strong people driven approach to my job, as I have found that productivity is often increased by streamlining communication and diligently supporting and unblocking team members, but my love for coding allows me to fulfill an individual contributor role when needed.

    Engineering Team Lead
    Medisked, Llc Jun 2018 - Jul 2019
    Rochester, New York, Us
In addition to the responsibilities of the SDE II position noted below, I am more heavily involved in product level roadmapping of features and releases in our 6 week sprint, serving often as an engineering team representative and subject matter expert to help accurately plan and delegate features among my 7 person team.I also perform mandatory code inspections for my platform, provide software specifications andLOE's for new work efforts, and lead morning standups, clearing technological or procedure related "blockers" for my team. This position essentially allows me to use my experience to help the other members of my team work more efficiently, while still developing and contributing to the code base myself. My code contributions are now more around creating and enforcing framework standards and best practices, and eliminating duplication of work effort within the team.I am also "On-Call" for deployments at the end of the sprint, making myself available for issues that might arise during the late night deployment window. This may involve diagnosing bugs introduced by the release and proposing solutions which I may then implement. If I am not the subject matter expert in the defective area, I will document my findings and have the next steps ready for the said SME for the next day. Technologies - SQL, C#, ASP.NET, VBScript, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Jira, bitbucket, git
  • Medisked, Llc
    Software Development Engineer Ii
    Medisked, Llc Jul 2017 - Jul 2018
    Rochester, New York, Us
This role involved a large amount of cross department communication to ensure that the delivered product was in line with customer expectations. This included scheduling meetings with the appropriate stakeholders to gain clarity and direction for the specific business cases of each ticket, as well as providing opportunities to train said stakeholders on the intricacies of the finalized features. During this time I became a subject matter expert in EDI transaction sets and file transmission, specifically focusing on developing a 3rd party electronic billing solution for a new product. More specifically, my major project was to develop a C# .Net application that generated and validated EDI 835 files for transmission to EMEDNY. The application could be used by customers via the web platform itself, or interacted with via secure API by automated solutions. The SDE II level at Medisked largely signifies the ability to work independently when necessary to design solutions for new features proposed by sales and product. This included:Developing SQL schema(s) for said features Writing any SQL stored procedures / functions to facilitate efficient data storage Adding to / creating new components for the data access layer (C# .NET) to properly utilize said procedures and tables Utilizing / creating optimal data structures to retrieve and or manipulate the dataCreating front-end views / pages using html / aspx pages in conjunction with Javascript / jQuery to allow user interactivityBuilding secure APIs to allow for both internal and 3rd party tools to perform curated functions and transactions against the dataTechnologies - C# .NET, Web API, VBScript, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, jQuery mobile, SQL, Jira, bitbucket, git

Bug fixes, moderate new feature development on 2 platforms. The main difference between the contract position and the SDE I role largely revolved around the length of new feature development, and the degree to which new features could be independently designed and built.Technologies - VBScript, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, jQuery mobile, C#, ASP.NET, SQL, , Jira, bitbucket, git
