I oversee the development of NMR's electronic data collection forms for residential field studies to make them more flexible, easier to reuse and resistant to errors. I also provide guidance on the use of various tools to efficiently process dirty data and work on studies like the electrification of new homes.

I conducted a study that explores the economic and technical feasibility of deep energy retrofits to achieve net-zero energy for existing older homes in several climate zones within the Northeast. I also contributed to revisions of the 2021 Pennsylvania Technical Reference Manual for energy efficiency programs.I continue to oversee the development of our product efficiency data warehouse, and my poster for the 2019 International Energy Program Evaluation Conference (IEPEC), leverages data from it to develop regressions for key equipment efficiency metrics, and contrasts these with analogous equations from the EPA, BPA, and RESNET.

Contributed to several state energy efficiency program reports by analyzing the properties of multiple building systems and creating several dramatic visualizations with Tableau and creative use of Excel. Reduced staff time required for a key modelling step in some energy modelling by 75% by automating data entry. Updated corporate color palette to follow best practices for accessibility, and produced toolkit to assist staff with selection of colors for data visualization.See details under Publications below for an ACEEE paper I contributed to on building code compliance, and an IEPEC poster I developed using multiple sources of existing data to explore factors related to consumer satisfaction with LEDs.

Collected documentation of energy code compliance for new homes, and conducted audits of lighting, appliances, insulation and ventilation.

As part of Boston Green School's Energy Conservation Challenge I provided support for a behavior-based energy conservation program to nineteen schools participating in the challenge. I developed a handbook of procedures and recommendations for teachers–see below–and also lead classroom discussions of energy conservation as well as school energy audits. In addition, I created a semi-automated template system for dashboard-style reports of school energy savings during my tenure in this term position.

I compiled a summary of the LED lighting replacement and retrofits incentives offered by the approximately 70 DesignLights Consortium (DLC) member utilities/regions to help members and manufacturers understand the broader program landscape. I also researched options to create an interactive online map of DLC members, and tested various technologies for a self-hosted solution.

Science from Scientists (SfS) is Boston-based non-profit that provides year-round science enrichment services for local schools.During my tenure at SfS I developed and taught lesson plans featuring hands-on activities for diverse middle school science topics such as density, energy, topography, measurement, camouflage and adaptation. I observed that teachers often had difficulty selecting or preparing students for SfS lessons. In response I created a system of teacher resources to promote better integration with the classroom curriculum, a sample of which is attached below. These documents include relevant MCAS standards, vocabulary and safety information. They also feature a curated list of links for the teacher to use in review or increase her personal content knowledge.I also worked with staff and volunteers to inventory and maintain teaching supplies, upgrading equipment according to feedback. This included frugal management of the equipment budget by creatively sourcing supplies from unconventional suppliers or locating commodity substitutes for more expensive lab-grade chemicals. In addition, I organized field trips to the Museum of Science and MIT museum supplemented by my student-acclaimed campus tours. These included respectively, a scavenger hunt worksheet to help focus students on the exhibit content and a campus tour that was raved about for days afterwards.As a programmer and quick study I was able to develop a powerful and integrated CMS-driven website to serve as extranet and public portal for Science from Scientists with a variety of features including: semi-private posts for parents to learn about SfS staff visits, an online equipment tracking system, display of equipment status in post thumbnails/search results, automated reminders about late equipment and for equipment maintenance.

As the Cambridge Energy Alliance's (CEA) Technologist, I set up and customized information technology systems including a customer contact database using open source software (RT: Request Tracker). I managed several interns and created maps to support neighborhood canvassing. I also contributed to written materials marketing the program, provided weekly updates for CEA's Energy 2.0 blog, and maintained a community events calendar.

I conducted research in support of planned efforts to promote compliance with—the then new—Article 37 green building requirement, and voluntary adoption of more stringent standards by private developers and building managers within the vicinity of Boston Harbor. I also assisted with the TBHA-MWRA joint program, Harbor Bound, which exposes students to local water quality issues via field trips to the Deer Island wastewater treatment facility.

While interning in the Campus Planning Division of the Department of Facilities I supported campus planning efforts with data collection, analysis and map creation. For example, I created a model of daytime population distribution from human resources and registrar data for a dining venue siting study.

WasteCap was a small non-profit dedicated to the promotion of waste management efficiency. I located new vendors for the Recycling Services Directory, responded to public inquiries, and assisted with website maintenance. I also collaborated with MIT's waste management officials to map the locations of recycling bins on campus, and sought input from laboratories about the composition and volume of non-ferrous metals in the university's waste stream.
