I meet with youth who have a suspected or identified mental health and/or substance abuse issue. Based on my assessment I connect students and families to various support services. I also provide extra mental health counseling support to students on a temporary and/or needed basis.

Currently, I provide individual and family counseling to children, adolescents and adults, working to ease adjustment during an important and often difficult period. My counseling approach is client -oriented with a focus on the family. I make use of cognitive-behavioral and emotion-focused techniques. These techniques are defined as the following:Cognitive Behavioral - This means that you have certain thoughts about the events that occur in your life. These thoughts help to determine how you feel about the event, which in turns affects what you do. Emotion Focused - People may learn new behaviors best in certain situations when they are experiencing the emotions that are usually present in those situations. Both of these approaches are in some way related to each other and may be intertwined in my work. It is especially important to me to emphasize and work with your strengths and those of your family and community.

Works directly and collaboratively with a caseload of individual students and their parents, school staff, community service providers, mentors and volunteers to implement comprehensive and inclusive strategies that address school success, school engagement and high school completion for students at-risk for dropping out.  Tracks and documents the levels of engagement, attendance, grades, and credits of target students.  Completes intervention sheets to assess the number and types of absences, skips, suspensions, and grades/credits earned.  Works as a liaison to facilitate communication and promote problem solving both at the individual student level and between home and school. Attends care team, truancy, parent/teacher, parent/ counselor, suspension re-entry and other relevant meetings. Refers students and families to appropriate information and community services to develop the school and community service link.

Educated, inspired, and assisted adjudicated African American youth, because of their overrepresentation in the juvenile justice system, to create meaningful lives for themselves by acting as an experienced guide that provided quality feedback, appropriate advice, a menu of options and thinking and reusable tools that enabled self maintenance which led to youth being more effective in accomplishing life goals.
