I led the staff of senior platform engineers on our next generation query pipeline. With the rapid growth of the company I also hired and mentored leaders and individual contributors working in the areas of query federation, data engine, connectivity and data preparation in Seattle, Palo Alto and Austin. Our technology stack consisted of cross-platform native components running on Windows, MacOS and Linux on the desktop, Tableau Public Cloud and Tableau Online. At Tableau I grew my understanding of the statistics, data visualization/data science space and interacted with the most loyal, passionate customers I’ve ever met.

My wife and I ran a small coffee roasting business on the side to satiate my desire to bring out the terroir in high quality coffee from Africa, Central and South America and particular islands.

Member of the triad accountable for all aspects of Visual C++ including strategy, planning, resourcing and execution. Responsible for the entire Visual C++ Quality Assurance team; developers working in the test discipline.

Test Lead for C++ AMP (Accelerated Massive Parallelism) and C++ Parallel Patterns Library. Technical computing using GPUs as vector accelerators, the C++ AMP language extensions enabled the creation of high performance GPU kernels from regular C++ lambdas and seamless interoperability with CPU code. Planning, implementation and testing was required in the visual C++ compiler front-end & back-end and runtime libraries as well as interactions with DirectX HLSL.

Leading the validation team for the Parallel Developer Tools team within the Parallel Computing Platform team. Version 1 of the the parallel debugger (parallel watch, stack) and the concurrency visualizer were created by this team. These major components were shipped at high quality resulting in zero service pack or QFEs.

Leading the Visual C# Compiler QA team during Visual Studio 2008 product development. Responsible for managing between 8-10 individual contributors as we delivered compelling, high quality new features like Language Integrated Query, Lambda functions, partial classes and extension methods.

MIW Solutions consists of three products: Windows Mobile Update, Mobilizer and Services. Being the first test manager hired in this group allowed me to manage QA folks on all three of these projects at different times. Worked closely with Development Manager and Program Managers to outline requirements for version 1 of mobile services, including device management aspects. Worked with other test managers and the director of engineering to create a healthy sustainable team environment. Responsible for recruiting and hiring a high performance QA team to create infrastructure and test version 1 mobile services. Also helped recruit test managers, leads and individual contributors for the other two projects.

Responsible for leading the Visual C++ libraries QA team during the Visual Studio 2005 product cycle, the Visual C++ native compiler QA team during the Visual Studio 2003 product cycle and the autocomplete and edit and continue features during the Visual Studio 2000 product cycle. Over this time, realizing increased emphasis on growing direct reports through mentoring and development planning. Coordinating with Program Management and Development peers in issue triage/prioritization and tracking, area test planning, resource costing and scheduling.Senior lead activities include representing the programming model team (libraries and compiler front-end) for planning and staffing, participating as a Visual C++ core lead.

Responsibilities included physical database design, development and implementation using Transact SQL, Erwin and Microsoft Developer Studio. Responsible for leading contingent staff resources in development of the HR Datamart as part of SAP/MS-HR integration. Duties also included time estimation and scheduling of development resources.

Responsibilities included requirements gathering, time estimation, project scheduling, design, development, and implementation of Human Resource information systems. Accomplishments included: implementation of a consolidated worldwide Human Resources reporting database, including defining the interface between 17 remote sites and corporate Human Resources. Involved in leading analysis to describe and define interfaces between Microsoft’s Human Resource systems and several other key Microsoft business systems (including Performance Review and Finance’s Budget Work Bench). Also, lead analysis and design for the HR Datamart as part of SAP/HR integration including interface definition.

This position was responsible for all aspects of Tyson’s Seafood Division information systems. Managed and lead staff of application developers and LAN analysts. Responsibilities also included procurement of contract resources, managing internal costs, defining interfaces between application systems at Tyson corporate and seafood division. Application Development Manager (October 1992 – December 1993)This position reported directly to Tyson’s vice president of Information Technology. Primary responsibilities included setting direction for application development to achieve maximum return on investment, Systems Analysis, tools/utility development and coordination with Tyson corporate IT. Accomplishments included the successful design and deployment of a process driven, iterative software design methodology to maximize a small, agile development staff.

Responsibilities included requirements definition, application design, development, and implementation of business applications across the entire spectrum of Arctic Alaska business, including payroll, accounts payable, general ledger, procurement. Actively involved in defining and promoting programming standards across development staff. Responsible for task estimation and project scheduling. Duties also included mentoring and leading junior staff members.
