I am a builder of humanoid robots and humanoid robot organizations. Since 1994, I have been a key contributor to a half dozen bipedal robots and a consultant, subcontractor, or advisor to about a dozen more. From 2002-2022 I built and led the IHMC Robotics Lab, which, among other things, won second place in the 2015 DARPA Robotics Challenge. I have been enthusiastically, sometimes patiently - sometimes not, following enabling technologies for humanoids, and occasionally contributing to those enabling technologies. Most indications now point towards humanoids being possibly ready for prime time! Therefore, I am focused on building Persona AI, a humanoid startup, with the goal of putting humanoids to work. I am a big fan of organizations with widely distributed decision making authority, with autonomous teams that collaboratively put together the 100,000 pieces of the puzzle. I find joy in watching highly-functioning teams build high-performance robots, and am excited to build yet one more organization to do so.I am putting together the founding team for Persona AI.
