I'm a widely experienced explorationist focused primarily on copper, zinc, and gold metal deposits in a variety of terrains. I excel at conceptualizing high quality exploration targets, designing and implementing exploration programs, and building and managing exploration teams. Experience has spanned early to advanced stage exploration projects. I have over 35 years of experience as an exploration geologist working throughout the western U.S. , Alaska, and internationally. My experience includes exploration for both sediment-hosted and volcanic-hosted massive sulfide deposits, porphyry copper deposits, epithermal gold deposits, intrusive-related gold deposits, sediment-hosted gold deposits, carbonate-hosted base metal deposits, and copper-cobalt and copper-nickel deposits. I specialize in project generation, exploration target conceptualization, exploration program design, project evaluation, building and leading exploration teams, and imbuing exploration programs with a strong technical focus. Presently, I'm working with our team at Sandfire Resources to develop the Black Butte Copper project in central Montana, where we're building an underground mine on copper deposits I helped discover back in 1985 during my earlier years with Cominco American Inc. The Montana DEQ gave Sandfire its Final Mine Operating Permit on August 15th of 2020, which allowed the first phase of construction of surface facilities on the project. The cut and fill mining plan includes paste tailings backfill of underground stopes; cemented paste tailings in a dry double lined surface facility; and discharge of RO treated water to groundwater. 100% of the site will return to cattle grazing, its current use, after a short closure and reclamation period. The design has successfully eliminated any issues with water quality and eliminates any aspect of the mine that would require 'perpetual' management. This is the first new major mine permitted in Montana in many years. After weathering legal challenges by antimining groups against our company and the Montana DEQ, we're awaiting a supreme court ruling expected in early 2024 which will resolve any legal matters. We're confident we've got an exceptionally strong case and we and the Montana DEQ can easily resolve any outstanding issues.

Senior Vice PresidentTintina Resources Inc May 2017 - PresentSpokane, WashingtonI brought the Black Butte Copper project to this company and it has become our flagship project, which we've advanced from a small geologic resource to an NI 43-101 compliant high grade, underground minable resource of over one billion pounds of copper. I maintain a small geological staff and with our other senior staff have focused on advancing the development of this remarkable resource. We submitted a mine operating permit application to the Montana Department of Environmental Quality in December of 2015 and we achieved a 'draft' permit with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality in October of 2017. Now we are in the final Environmental Impact Study stage of Montana's permitting process, which by Montana statute is supposed to take no more than one year. The mining plan includes using tailings as paste backfill to completely fill underground workings; cemented paste tailings in a dry double lined surface facility; and entirely subterranean treated water discharge after reverse osmosis water treatment. 100% of the site will return to cattle grazing, its current use, after a short closure and reclamation period. The design focus has been to eliminate any issues with wat These measures enable us to meet Montana's strict nondegradation water standardsy and eliminate any aspect of the mine that would require 'perpetual' management. We are very committed to the local community of White Sulphur Springs and surrounding communities so that we have more jobs and maintain the great recreational and aesthetic qualities of the area we all love here.

Exploration ManagerNovagold Resources Inc. Feb 2006 - Dec 2008United StatesI generated new projects and managed all early and mid stage exploration projects and activities for NovaGold in Alaska starting in early 2006. Work including work on the Ambler district in Alaska; work on orogenic gold deposits (Rock Creek) and gold and copper exploration on the Seward Peninsula; work an a variety of intrusive-related gold prospects in the 'Tintina gold belt' of Alaska; and evaluation of prospects and projects statewide. -
Senior GeologistNovagold Apr 2005 - Feb 2006AlaskaI joined NovaGold to work on the Ambler project in Northwest Alaska (Arctic Cu-Zn-Pb-Au-Ag VMS; Bornite Cu-Co), and also worked on a variety of other projects and generated several new targets. -
Senior GeologistTeck Cominco American Inc. May 1981 - Apr 2005Spokane, WashingtonI worked at Cominco American Inc. (later Teck Cominco American) from 1981 until 2005, with positions ranging from assistant geologist to senior geologist. I worked primarily in western North America, with some international experience, exploring for a variety of metal deposit types in diverse geologic settings. Work ranged from grass roots project generation and management to advanced project evaluation and management. Significant activities included a strong technical role in the discovery of the Sheep Creek copper deposits in Montana in 1985 (now called the Black Butte Copper Project), and a combined a lead technical/management role in discovery of the Washington Rock zinc deposit at the Pend Oreille mine at Metaline Falls, NE Washington. in 2000 which led to re-opening of the mine and for which my team and I received the Teck annual President's award. My time with Cominco American gave me a solid grounding in a variety of commodities and types of mineral deposits. I gained a strong background in understanding the early stage exploration process, and an appreciation of the types of mineral systems required to create a giant deposit.
