About Ding-Shyue (Jerry) Yang

Research focusing on ultrafast electronic and structural dynamics in condensed matter and at interfaces, using ultrafast electron crystallography and microscopy. The newly developed scanning ultrafast electron microscopy brings new ways to investigate materials and interfacial phenomena, with both spatial and temporal resolutions in imaging.Applied the technique of time-resolved electron diffraction to the studies of photoinduced structural dynamics of materials, interfacial water assemblies and self-assembled monolayers, in the femtosecond to nanosecond range.Explored strongly correlated materials, such as superconductors and those exhibiting phase transitions, structurally intriguing solids (e.g., graphite), and nanostructures.Specialties: electronic and structural dynamics, solvation dynamics, condensed matter physics, electron diffraction and imaging, scanning electron microscopy, femtosecond laser, Matlab

Listed skills include Scanning Electron Microscopy, Matlab, Physical Chemistry, Laser, and 15 others.

Ding-Shyue (Jerry) Yang work experience

A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.

Assistant Professor Of Chemistry

Houston, Tx, Us

We are a physical chemistry group focusing on elucidation of the correlation between electronic and structural dynamics in condensed matter, and solid-molecule interactions, structures and phase transitions, and photoinduced dynamics at interfaces. To capture and even visualize the ultrafast changes, we utilize time-resolved electron diffraction in reflection and transmission geometries and scanning ultrafast electron microscopy, as well as femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. I teach undergraduate- and graduate-level chemistry courses.

Scientist

Pasadena, Ca, Us

Applying the newly developed scanning ultrafast electron microscopy to various research fields, including laser-induced structural dynamics, interface solvation and phase transformations in condensed matter and biological specimens.

Aug 2010 - May 2012

Postdoctoral Scholar

Pasadena, Ca, Us

Developing scanning ultrafast electron microscopy by interfacing a femtosecond laser system with a conventional scanning electron microscope. Research topics includes laser-induced structural dynamics and phase transformations in condensed matter and biological specimens.
