I'm a hands-on person who likes both doing and teaching others how to do. As a former helicopter mechanic in the USAF, motorcycle mechanic, language mechanic (aka: high school English teacher & AP Computer Science teacher), and technology mechanic (Database Administrator and Network Support Manager), I really enjoy understanding the mechanics of any system that I am working on so that I can make the end user's job as simple as possible. I practice being proactive, rather than reactive, so that potential problems are minimized and end users have a positive experience with the systems they are working with. I've been happily married for 39 years, have 3 wonderful children and 2 above average grandbabies, love the outdoors and open spaces, and trust in God's promise that in this world we will have troubles, but not to fear because He has overcome the world and He walks beside us through those troubled times.This quote from Astronaut Christina Koch, who recently returned to earth after 328 days in space, means a lot to me. Her advice to people was to "follow your passions, live the life you've imagined, and do what scares you." I like that because she didn't just say, "Don't be afraid", she said to "do what scares you" which means to be a person of action--be proactive--and face your fears with the intent of putting them behind you. I retired after 33 years as a high school teacher so that I could face more difficult and scarier challenges in the "real" world, not to sit in my rocking chair on my front porch and watch the world stroll by. God created me and placed me here to be his ambassador, and that's not a job that I'll retire from until He calls me home.
