As a member of the Digital, Data and Technology group, I support the research and teaching efforts of the Faculty of Engineering & Design, advising nearly one thousand postgraduates, researchers, and academics on technology solutions tailored to their projects.My role requires proficiency in providing quotes for a variety of needs—from mobile workstations to advanced analysis systems and IoT devices. In an OS-agnostic environment, I ensure robust support for numerous Windows devices while holding expertise in Unix-based systems, including Linux and macOS.With the dynamic shift in technology, I’ve expanded my skill set to include developing custom solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, as well as specializing in software packaging, deployment, and managing Azure Virtual Desktop environments.A wide range of research goes on in the faculty and being able to quote customers on everything from mobile workstations to cutting edge analysis systems is essential. Because of this, I maintain an understanding of the requirements for many different types of instrumentation and software. Likewise, I work to keep my knowledge of changes in the industry up to date, to best support members of the faculty.

Primary liaison for my team on cybersecurity concerns, bridging communication with the senior IT Security team. My responsibilities sometimes extend to conducting security assessments for new software and cloud solutions, as well as taking point in threat investigation within the Faculty. I regularly work to maintain up-to-date cybersecurity knowledge and to enhance my abilities in threat analysis and response. Aligned with the NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework, I’ve advanced my skills to meet the requirements of a Vulnerability Assessment Analyst. Additionally, I have completed an extensive selection of CREST accredited labs through Immersive Labs, further sharpening my practical security skills.

In the IT Security Team, I was actively involved in daily operational tasks, which included monitoring service request tickets and responding to Splunk alerts.My responsibilities extended to conducting thorough security assessments of proposed software solutions and cloud services, ensuring compliance with existing policies and GDPR. This enabled me to provide well-informed advice to researchers on appropriate technology usage.Additionally, I authored detailed documentation and led communications critical to the successful adoption of MFA, thus bolstering the University’s security posture.

I took over development of the most popular Android client for the Japanese learning platform WaniKani. With the original repo abandoned, I forked the project, rebranding and working to maintain compatibility, as well updating it for modern Android APIs and devices. I successfully re-launched the app on Google Play, where it is available for free, boasting a 4.89-star rating, and with over 1500 users, and an averages of 200 downloads per month.Maintaining the original open-source ethos, I’m also principal maintainer and app publisher for the collaborative project, which benefits from active community engagement and code contributions. I frequently review, test, and integrate pull requests to enhance the app, adding new features and providing a consistent and bug free experience for its growing user base.

In the bustling IT department, I provided both 1st and 2nd line support to nearly 1,000 staff members. My expertise in managing a largely virtualized infrastructure has been honed through extensive work with XenDesktop and VDI-in-a-Box solutions, as well as setting up and managing enterprise-level desktops and laptops.Collaborating closely with the head of support and our systems administrators, I played a pivotal role in spearheading change including contributing significantly to the migration of the company’s Exchange platform and took the initiative in developing process documentation and updating the systems wiki, ensuring streamlined and efficient operations.

Overseeing a team of around seventy, I took responsibility for day-to-day operational management and complex problem resolution. I was required to organise training programs, develop performance metrics, and craft strategic communications. In managing intricate customer interactions and team dynamics, I developed a keen eye for detail and a systematic approach to improving performance and developing new processes.

Working with the Imaging Lab team at Future, I contributed freelance copy for verticals in their photography portfolio. My main focus was the testing of consumer level photographic equipment and the writing of associated review copy. I was required to write to spec and produce associated sample images. I also worked directly within the imaging lab, assisting in the testing of lens optics, both with calibration charts and with architectural features to demonstrate optical quality and deformations.
