Lead developer for a custom-designed web-based UI for faceted search and navigation of news articles. Primary responsibility was to implement customer requirements for a high-volume website as an interactive Ajax-driven browser client, with extensive customization and support on the web tier layer (Apache HTTPD, Tomcat servlet container, Squid caching, content delivery networks, etc.). Tasks included the design and implementation of server-side Ajax endpoints for storing and retrieving customer data (saved searches, search history, asynchronous loads for external content, etc.), implementation of the Javascript and JSP required for browser-based user interfaces, and the research and implementation of technologies to cache and deliver content at the web tier level.

Designed and developed two Eclipse RCP viewer plug-ins for webMethods Designer (custom categorization, asset dependency viewer) and various command-line tools related to ontology import and export, editing, and development. Also responsible for extending, enhancing, and supporting Cerebra Construct, a Visio-based VBA application used for designing and editing OWL/RDF ontologies. Tasks have included the design and development of an encrypted WS-security transport layer (JAAS, Axis 1.4) with fine-grained server-side authorization and the implementation of JDBC API's required to interface Cerebra Server to various back-end data stores. Company was acquired by webMethods Inc. in 2006, and webMethods merged with Software AG in 2007.

Designed and developed the HTML content editing and rendering engine used within the company’s flagship product, Web Studio 4.0

Designed and developed server applications and engines for real-time transformation of website content into multiple device formats (WAP, PDA, HTML, PDF, Section 508 devices) using XML/XSLT transformation. Projects have included the design and development of server engines for content and object transformation, caching, transport mechanisms, an image transformation servlet, and an HTML WYSIWYG editor applet. Tasks have included updating and extending a suite of legacy internet publishing applications, and the development of customized servlets and installation software for a variety of internet and intranet server platforms.

Designed and developed new desktop, client/server, and internet applications and API’s related to Machine Translation (i.e.; English into French) for commercial and federal distribution, and was responsible for the maintenance and improvement of numerous legacy Windows MT applications. Projects have included the design and development of commercial Java applications, applets, and API’s (multi-lingual chat server, browser client, document post-editing module, etc.), a filtering engine written in C++ / STL for document format conversion (RTF, HTML, MS Word, FrameMaker, etc.), an ISAPI extension for real-time translation of web pages, and a suite of language translation add-ins for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Design, develop, and maintain both the hardware and software platforms used in a nationwide network of driving simulators that detect physical impairment through performance testing and monitoring. Responsibilities included the design and development of an embedded system used to detect impairment by monitoring driver response and vehicle position, two versions of a real-time driving simulator for pre-shift performance testing, peer-to-peer networking and remote dial-up software required for customer support services, and a database for client tracking, report generation, and automated data transfer to and from customer installations. Additional assignments included the design and fabrication of low cost 80386-based desktop and in-cab simulator systems, along with systems configuration, quality assurance testing, installation, in-house and end user documentation, and on-site support for ESI clientele.
