I am serving my second 4-year term as an elected county commissioner and community volunteer. I was elected by my fellow commissioners as Mayor Pro Tem for 2019. I work to improve life in our neighborhoods and the vitality of our businesses. I strive for economic and environmental equity and policies that protect the rights and dignity of all citizens.I retired from UGA as the IT director in the Office of Research. My career in the IT industry began in customer support (systems programmer/analyst), then sales and management positions with Sperry (Unisys) (13 years), Wang Laboratories (13 years), and several start-up software and consulting companies. My clients and customers were Fortune 100 companies, until I focused on servicing the US Federal Government, including a five-year assignment in Europe (Wang Federal Systems). During my last 18 years, I have been starting and managing IT organizations engaged in the development, implementation and operation of enterprise software solutions.From 2003 until July 2012 at UGA, I directed six business units, including genomics/sequencing services, chemicals, supplies, research survey services, instrument making, instrument repair, computer repair, chemical analysis and glass blowing. I also managed a team of system administrators and application programmers, providing IT support for OVPR.I managed the technical implementation and operation of software which supports the university's compliance processes and record keeping for Animal Care and Use, Biosafety, Human Subjects (IRB), technology transfer, chemical safety, and grants submission and post-award. I now manage special IT projects in OVPR.I also served as one of the founding directors of the non-profit Athens Farmers Market (2008).
