I have had a productive and rewarding career at the rank of Full Professor at three different universities -- San Francisco State University, then the University of Redlands, and most recently at Akita International University in Japan. I also served as dean of the business schools at both SFSU and UoR, and held an endowed chair at the latter. It had been my intention to retire from academe as I departed UoR in 2010 and moved to Japan when my wife was offered a coveted position there, but soon realized I wasn’t ready to leave the classroom and easily acquiesced when AIU offered me a faculty position. Similarly, I returned to the classroom shortly after returning to California, teaching data science and machine learning in the School of Engineering at USC. We relocated to Northern Virginia ~D.C.) in 2019 to be closer to family along the East Coast, then in 2022 relocated to Bradenton FL.Outside academic settings, I have held management-level positions at a highly successful Silicon Valley tech startup that helped transform the healthcare industry, a Fortune 500 global conglomerate in the energy and transportation sectors, an aviation certification school, and a nonprofit education organization that I founded as a platform to develop and deliver interdisciplinary academic workshops and conferences. I have consulted to countless organizations over the years, won more than twenty competitive Federal research grants, and authored 83 peer-reviewed journal articles or conference presentations. From 2012-15 I served as Vice-Chair of The International Academic Forum (https://iafor.org/), which hosts more than 40 academic conferences annually across four continents. From 2015-17 I served as chair of the Audit Committee on the Board of Directors of a publicly-traded company that specializes in sustainable global agriculture. These have been productive pursuits.
