About Jerry Pyka

For over 30 years Jerry Pyka has been involved in adult education and management. He started in the petroleum industry developing and providing training to new employees in the oil service industry. Dr. Pyka later moved to the aerospace industry where he led and managed corporate quality for a major NASA subcontractor. His career at the University of Houston spanned more than a decade serving students. He is currently working in aerospace to research parts used on the International Space Station.Dr. Pyka has over 20 years of management experience in various industries including petroleum and aerospace, as well as academia. In the petroleum industry his group was responsible for the preparation and distribution of over one-million documents world wide and provided configuration management (CM) for ISO 9001 certification. In the aerospace industry he managed a team responsible for corporate quality. He has been involved in ISO 9001 quality certification, was the ISO management representative responsible for all corporate quality inquiries, has performed internal audits for companies and continues to be involved in corporate and academic quality. Jerry is certified as an ISO 9001/TS16949 lead auditor and assisted the Lighthouse of Houston (formerly the Lighthouse of the Blind) to achieve ISO 9001:2008 certification. Jerry is also CM certified having attained both CMPIC and CMII certifications.His academic career at the University of Houston started in 2000 when he was asked to teach a technical writing class in the College of Technology. In 2004 he joined UH full-time and served as Program Manager, Director of Programs, and Assistant Dean of Outreach in the College of Technology until July 2016 when an interim Dean abruptly ended all outreach in the College of Technology. He completed the Doctor of Education degree at the University of Houston in spring 2014. Dr. Pyka has taught classes in the areas of Organizational Leadership, Supply Chain and Logistics, Computer Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering Technology and Higher Education Administration.
