About Jerry Scherer

There is an adage in management which says that "you can't control it, unless you measure it or model it." I have modified it to "you can't control risk unless you measure it or model it and you can't achieve success unless you do." That is my credo and how I can help a company.I focused on measuring profit contribution in my analysis of every major sales order while carrying out my responsibilities as Chief Financial Officer of a mid sized tool and die company. To facilitate this company's expansion and growth plans, I was instrumental in securing $500,000 in new financing. Later, when this company was sold, I was one of four people asked to join the acquiring company. My analytic skills were honed all throughout my career in successive positions as Director of Corporate Accounting, Manager of Treasury Operations and Assistant Treasurer of a major Fortune 200 corporation. I managed a $1.1 billion dollar portfolio of revolving credit debt agreements with 32 domestic and international banks. In connection therewith I developed analytic tools to assist in making borrowing decisions. These tools were responsible for saving over $1 million dollars in interest costs. I have now formed a consulting practice to bring tools like Monte Carlo simulation to smaller companies. I am a former Chief Financial Officer with consistent success in defining and implementing appropriate strategies and tactics to mitigate risk.

Listed skills include Financial Analysis, Finance, Accounting, Financial Reporting, and 28 others.

Feb 2010 - Present

Transitional Controller

Schiller Park, Il

Manor Tool acquired Vogel Tool in November 2009. I was one of four Vogel people asked to join Manor. The challenge at Manor was to integrate Vogel's financial statements (maintained using Visual ERP Shop Floor Control and Accounting Software) into Manor's financial statements (maintained using the GlobalShop System Software). Additionally, there was the challenge of adding Vogel's extensive number of inventory parts and assemblies into Manor's records so that quantities could be tracked, jobs could be created to replenish supplies and inventories could be brought under control. Key Achievements: Spearheaded the transition from Vogel’s VISUAL® ERP Shop Floor Control and Accounting software into Manor’s GLOBAL SHOP® system. Strategically restructured financial reporting processes in accordance with organizational changes. Vogel’s bank account and credit card charge capability for Vogel customers needed to be established at Manor’s bank. Analyzed most cost effective way to do this and took care of all matters related thereto, Set up a tracking mechanism for Manor’s liability to the former Vogel owner.

Aug 1989 - Mar 1997

President

Jb Scherer & Associates, Ltd.

Glencoe, Il

In my previous employment with Northwest Industries, I developed a mainframe based decision support system to assist the Treasury Department in the management of bank revolving credit and institutional investor debt portfolios. Northwest was subsequently acquired by Farley Industries and, upon leaving Northwest, I negotiated with the management of Farley to take these mainframe based systems for my own use. From these systems I developed a product called AXXIOM which I attempted to market to Treasury Departments of companies having the same mainframe capability as Northwest had. I found that many companies were moving toward PC based programs. Thus, I developed similar functionality using similar software which thrived in the PC world.Significant accomplishments:Developed AXXIOM, a twenty-first century Treasury Management system.Entered into a consulting agreement with Manufacturers Hanover Trust to review and evaluate their PC-based Treasury Management offering.Developed the relationships with software developers of linear programming and Monte Carlo simulation PC-based software.Formed The January Group to bring these tools to middle market companies.
