Under direction, plans, designs, develops, implements, manages and coordinates a computer-based Geographic Information System (GIS); coordinates the GIS activities of system users. Provides technical expertise and supervision for users of the system.

• Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates the activities of GIS projects; provides leadership, direction and guidance for developing short and long-range goals for the County’s system.
• Plans, organizes, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff; participates in the selection of staff and provides for their training and professional development.
• Designs, develops and implements GIS applications; prepares procedures for appropriate integration of applications with other databases; evaluates effectiveness and recommends needed changes.
• Participates in the development and training for GIS users in the department and other County departments.
• Coordinates the design and enforcement of GIS standards and operating procedures.
• Participates and assists in providing technical direction, control and support in developing short and long range GIS goals and plans.
• Estimates costs of user-requested jobs and applications, maintains cost records and prepares costs to be distributed to other departments and users.
• Enters and retrieves data from computer information systems; determines which geographic data is necessary to create maps and related documents; produces maps and related documents using GIS software and hardware.
• Assists the public in person and over the phone with map related inquiries; makes appropriate referrals as necessary.
• Assists department staff in creating and designing effective presentation materials.
• Assists in the maintenance of office reference files including map records.
• Provides GIS support to staff for a variety of specialized and time sensitive plans and reports.
