- Optical design, simulation and functional testing of a backreflection protection module and various permanent metrology modules in a >23kW drive laser for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography- Integration and industrialization (of the above modules) into the production flow and field install sequences, e.g. by defining new alignment strategies, adapting product acceptance specifications, and programming qualification protocols- R&D-on-site hands-on escalation support for the drive lasers in the factory and field, e.g. troubleshooting, data analysis and communication with various stakeholders

Assisted in the upgrade of a high-energy, few-cycle laser system ("Light-Wave-Synthesizer 20" or LWS-20) in order to further investigate relativistic-intensity and ultrafast phenomena

• Improved the output pulse "cleanness" (contrast) of LWS-20 by 5 orders of magnitude via 2 different methods: i) Prototyping (starting from analytical calculations, simulations and 3D CAD), implementation and characterization of a novel pulse stretcher;ii) Upgrade of an existing cross polarized wave (XPW) generation setup• Participated in experiments to generate intense, isolated attosecond pulses via surface high harmonic generation (SHHG)

• Designed engineering solutions to improve a photoelectron emission microscopy (PEEM) setup• Conducted literature research in attosecond nanophotonics to support PEEM experiments• Technical installation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies in air and high-vacuum

Prototyped a handheld picosecond infrared laser (PIRL) scalpel to cut tissue with minimal collateral damage and collect the ablated tissue for subsequent analysis

• Designed and fabricated a side-firing, fiber-optic-guided biopsy needle to acquire brain tumour samples of various grades according to their optical properties• Built an electro-optical control system to integrate the needle with a laptop user interface• Tested the biopsy needle’s capability to avoid cutting blood capillaries of varying diameters in custom tissue “phantoms”, i.e. materials that simulate the optical properties of tissue
