Jess Atkinson is a true visionary in storytelling in this age of digital media. Cut from his college soccer team, Jess parlayed a tryout as a kicker for the University of Maryland into All-ACC recognition and a career with five NFL teams. He earned a Super Bowl ring with the 1987 Washington Redskins. Jess earned his stripes in the television industry as a general assignment and Emmy Award winning sport reporter from 1990-2003. Jess cut loose the shackles of the local television sports industry to pioneer the genre of reality/documentary programming for collegiate sports. He embarked on a mission to empower universities to tell their own story. His creation of the award winning Terrapins Rising series at Maryland ultimately led to the partnership that is now 3 Penny Films. Jess is most at home with a camera in his hands, in the edit room and exploring the art of storytelling.
