If I had to spend another month writing and rewriting another 60-page research paper that no one read, I was going to gauge my own eyes out. After working in global health for eight years, I had to take a step back and focus on what I loved about my work and what attracted me to the field in the first place. I recognized that parts of being a global development researcher that I enjoyed were asking and answering critical questions of the data, and figuring out ways to present data in a compelling, effective, and beautiful medium. This is why I founded Visualst, to overcome the consistent and fundamental problems in social development: access to localized data, critical analysis, and compelling transformational information that speak to both the emotional and technical sides of important issues. At Visualst, we conduct analytics and data visualizations for companies, governments or other development organizations that bring us the data because they’re struggling to leverage it as they desire and don’t have the capacity to do so inhouse. We help our clients through the journey of finding out what questions are worth answering and how they will use those answers to improve what they are doing, this is data-driven decision making in a nutshell.
