Also known as, Continuity Supervisor. Oversees continuity of the motion picture including wardrobe, props, set dressing, hair, makeup, and the actions of the actors during a scene. Records notes during production that are used to help the editor cut the scene.Further responsibilities entail: preparing thorough script breakdowns in pre-production, used and referenced by all department heads for strategic planning; keeping track of the film production unit's daily progress, and issuing daily reports to production and department heads; collaborating with the post-production supervisor to ensure all boxes are checked for post; monitoring camera shots to ensure edit cohesion; serving as the on-set representative for both the writer and editor; and maintaining (at minimum) a base-line understanding of the editing process. Script supervisors are a department head, and play a crucial role in the shooting of a film.
