I spent a year each in each of the core divisions of R&D (Exploratory, New Product Development, and Sustaining) in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of the complete product life while driving development of BSC’s innovative medical devices.Sustaining: Led 13 independent projects maintaining and improving the quality and gross margin of several commercialized endoscopic products (biopsy forceps, guidewires, sphincterotomes) New Product Development: Worked with cross functional team to drive a new endoscopic ultrasound product to commercialization. Emphasis on root cause of technical issues and development of technical specifications.Exploratory: Drove technical derisking/feasibility evaluation activities and value proposition development for whitespace materials projects.

The program emphasizes the importance of voice of customer analysis, business and regulatory acumen, and the design and engineering of novel devices. My two projects involved needs identification and development of devices in:(1) the cytopathology space, to improve diagnostic yield of bronchoscopic fine needle aspiration biopsies (2) the endoscopic accessories space, to improve access to a common gastroenterologic procedure in Indian healthcare settings, with industry partner Boston Scientific
