Most recently I have completed a PhD entitles 'Until Death: Binaries and Permanence in the Gender Recognition Act'. This research looks at the motivations for including a commitment to a binary and permanent gender in the GRA application requirements. I tracked developments of this clause throughout the drafting of the Act and to attempted reforms of the GRA. I then made reform suggestions such as pursuing a self-ID model of gender recognition, non-binary recognition, de-gendering documentation whilst ultimately arguing for decertification of legal gender. Previously I have completed a masters in Equality Law at Manchester Metropolitan University with Distinction. During the Masters I studied: Human Rights and Healthcare, International Human Rights Law and Equality and Human Rights Law. I chose to consider these subject areas from a SOGI perspective. Having completed the taught modules I then completed a dissertation including original primary research on the international recognition of transgender relationships within the EU. I graduated with a first class undergraduate law degree from Liverpool John Moores University. My final year dissertation explored and analysed the flaws for current transgender law/ policy at a national and university level. This is an area of law in which I have become increasingly interested and passionate about the protection of people and their human rights.
