I was responsible for creating and maintaining successful client experiences through leadership of our people, our technology, and our processes.I worked with my team to ensure proper function of our technology which provided Freight Pay and Audit, as well as, Contract Negotiation services for our clients across all modes (parcel, LTL, Truckload, Air, Ocean, Last Mile Courier, etc).I taught my team and implemented processes to analyze the transportation and logistics data to find optimization opportunities to help our client’s solve operational problems.I led and mentored the managers that worked for me to manage the multitudes of inputs their jobs bring, to grow in their industry knowledge, and to improve their technical and analytical abilities so they could lead and mentor their own teams. Together we created a culture of accountability that led to success for our customers because our internal teams were able to excel.I also developed specifications and managed build out of our Freight platform including audit, optimization, and business intelligence functions which was an entirely new offering. In the time I was overseeing this project we built and implemented the system from scratch such that it became a top revenue driver for the organization at the time I moved on.

I was the Business Owner for Helmsman Freight Solutions, the logistics company owned by Quirch Foods, a ~$1B fresh/frozen food distributor. In this role, I oversaw our major service offerings including sea freight, over the road trucking, and detailed export documentation services. I led a staff of 15 cross functional team members. I was responsible for overseeing the entire operation and the P&L. I engaged with customers at all levels from Administrative to the Executive team in order to solve problems, improve operations, and better bottom-line’s in both English and Spanish.While in this role, I exceeded revenue and profit growth goals two years in a row; achieving greater than 10% growth.I improved service by setting up KPIs, communicating them to the team and our customers, and holding the team accountable to achieve them. This resulting in reduced claims, rework, and service issues by 30%.I worked with our CTO to design, test, and implement the logistics component of the new in-house ERP system developed by IT to serve the end-to-end business needs.

I returned to Perry Ellis to serve as Director of Logistics. I was responsible for strategy development and management of the global logistics system supporting nearly $1B in revenues for the many brands under the Perry Ellis umbrella. I lead my team, negotiated ocean, air, and land contracts, and drove cost saving for business units by managing vendor relationships and identifying operational improvement opportunities.I was able to drive significant cost savings by working with my team to catch billing errors by our carriers. Understanding how to analyze contracts puts you in a great position to understand if those contracts are being applied correctly. My team and I were able to discover issues with our parcel carriers billing the wrong party AND applying a correction surcharge resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in overcharges. We identified the root cause and implemented the software solution to prevent the issue going forward. We also worked with our vendor to make the company whole for the significant expense caused by the error.I sourced a new vendor resulting in decreased returns freight expense by 20% and reduced warehousing costs.I discovered the root cause of a cost per unit increase for retail store distribution team resulting in a $120K reimbursement from the carrier.I worked cross functionally with e-commerce team to realize a 5% savings in outbound freight expense and improved customer experience.

I led Transportation Analysts from two regions achieving consistent optimization of deliveries based on cost, miles, and workload providing the highest level of service to our customers at the lowest sustainable cost for Staples private delivery network.I created and implemented a set of job aids (using Microsoft Access and Outlook) that our transportation analysts, field management, and delivery drivers adopted nationwide by which improved routing, reduced operational rework, increased trust and transparency for all stakeholders.I also integrated the post-merger overlapping delivery operations in markets including Columbus, Ohio and Los Angeles, California. I reviewed the new delivery routes, worked with field management and drivers to ensure zero service disruptions, and was on-site to support during our go live weeks.

In my most recent role, I was the package planner for one of the largest last mile delivery divisions within the organization. I helped eight managers execute their delivery plan for over 300 drivers and more than 35,000 packages every day. I worked with the managers to create operating plans for day-to-day operations and special operating days, provide service delivery operations with volume/stop projections to ensure delivery operations managers achieved their cost/production goals. In this role I was able to truly understand what goes into making a small parcel delivery network successful and how the mechanics of getting parcels from anywhere in the world to anywhere else in the world actually work.In previous roles, I was responsible for the doing the capital infrastructure analysis to determine when and where new facilities would be built. When building those facilities, I was able to help determine the size and type of technologies they would need over the planning horizon.

I was able to complete two rotations during my time in the Operations Leadership Development Program. I spent time in production control and the supplier quality department.In production control, I got my first exposure to managing people that do not directly report to me. That was a great experience for a young graduate, as I was only 20 when I completed my undergrad work. I also learned the importance of and begin my love affair with creating and following procedures since we were working on aircraft components that could truly mean life or death.While in my production control rotation, I had responsibility for a program that was delayed and struggling. I was able to work with program management, engineering, manufacturing, testing, and quality assurance to deliver the units needed to complete the order.When I moved to my Supplier Quality rotation, I was able to start my logistics journey. I worked with suppliers to rectify their issues that were impacting our production. Inbound logistics was an important part of the job and jumped started my thirst for knowledge in this area.
