Profile bio

About Jessica Windham

I am obsessed with overcoming obstacles. When I was young, obstacles were everywhere. My mom was in the military and raised me by herself. I moved all the time, living with little to no adult supervision. In the third grade, a fire burned down my house and most of my meager possessions. As it turned out, even someone who thinks they have nothing, can still lose everything.Instead of breaking me though, all these obstacles taught me a valuable lesson. They showed me that in the end, we are all we need to succeed.I then went to college at the University of Buffalo, where I fell in love with industrial engineering. As I learned, it was the actual science behind overcoming obstacles. Later, I earned my master's degree in engineering management from Drexel University. My education taught me two very important ideas: ✨People can’t succeed at scale without processes. ✨Processes that don’t take people into account are actually harmful. After graduation, I found a home in the logistics industry. Logistics is all about people overcoming obstacles to keep things moving forward. I learned to embrace each new obstacle in my path as an opportunity for growth.Starting as an intern, I rose to the level of Chief Operating Officer, honing my craft: ✅ Improved routing for over 300 drivers moving 35,000 packages a day at UPS. ✅ Created cross-functional routing job aids that Staples adopted nation-wide. ✅Led a Kaizen event solution at Transportation Insight that reduced the sales cycle by 75%.Over the years, I’ve seen every aspect of the logistics industry. I've negotiated multi-million-dollar RFPs. I've implemented ERPs for billon dollar companies. I've designed entire FPA software platforms. But through it all, I never forgot about the people behind the systems: 💖Co-founded a networking group to support women in logistics. 💖 Volunteered on an educational advisory board to help future problem solvers. 💖 Built teams based on personal enrichment and professional accountability.Today, as CEO of Solving Work, I help other logistics leaders overcome their own obstacles. I've worked with managers everywhere, and I’ve seen that most of them are struggling to stay afloat. The shipping industry presents constant challenges, both time sensitive and cross-functional. At Solving Work, our three-step consulting engagement helps those managers: ✔Discover their Pain Points ✔Reveal the Root Cause ✔Implement SolutionsI always enjoy the opportunity to connect, so please reach out to me at jess@solvingwork.com to talk more!

I lead my team, negotiated ocean, air, and land contracts, and drove cost saving for business units by managing vendor relationships and identifying operational improvement opportunities.I was able to drive significant cost savings by working with my team to catch billing errors by our carriers. Understanding how to analyze contracts puts you in a great position to understand if those contracts are being applied correctly.
