Museum Store Manager And Volunteer Coordinator

A large portion of this position deals with guest relations. I am the first person a visitor sees when they begin their museum experience. In order to answer their questions about Joliet, Route 66, and the museum I must be knowledgeable about the area, our collections, events, exhibits, and programs. I am also responsible for organizing, explaining, and scheduling all of our group tours and education programs for the museum. As the store manager, this position also includes a lot of retail experience, such as running the online store and cash register, managing assistants, and writing monthly reports for the board. Another key role is organizing the shop itself by keeping up to date with orders, inventory, and researching and trying out new items. As the Volunteer Coordinator, I am responsible for recruitment, training, scheduling, and general running of the volunteer program. Part of my tasks is helping the Curator as I am also part of the Collections and Exhibits Committee and work with the committee on designing and researching exhibits. I am also responsible for many of the social media posts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.
