Pearsall Intermediate School

Develop and instruct music curriculum to meet music literacy goals, vocal and instrumental, grades 3-5, with a focus on transferring vocal reading skills to instrument centers; recorder, keyboard, xylophones, ukulele, and guitar. Created and maintain a spreadsheet for monitoring student progress as they earn certificates indicating the date the certificate was earned and showing each student the next three expectations, thus the progress is ongoing and never ending. Created and maintain the Pearsall Intermediate Music Literacy web pages including videos and materials for students to view and utilize.‣ Clinician: “Moving From Rote to Music Literacy,” Texas Music Educators Association Convention 2018‣ Awarded two grants and two fully funded Donor’s Choose projects.‣ Purchased recorders for all students.‣ Purchased 20 ukuleles.‣ Purchased 13 guitars‣ Purchased 15 keyboards.

Sawnee Elementary School

Developed and instructed music curriculum to meet music literacy goals, vocal and instrumental, grades 3, 4, & 5. Created "Color Coded Recorder Fingering Charts" and five "Beginning Color Coded Recorder Songs." Created "Color Coded Major Scale Fingering Charts" for playing the major scale with the left and right hand at keyboard/piano center/stations. Designed new music room to incorporate music centers; keyboard, Orff, recorders, music history, music listening stations, and practice rooms. Appropriated funds to purchase six electronic keyboards, stands, and headphones. Created "Performance Certificates" awarded to students who successfully transferred vocal reading skills to keyboard/piano, recorder, or Orff instruments. Created lunchroom table "Composer History Stand-ups". Showcased Music You Can Read® at Georgia Music Educators State Conference, Savannah, GAPresenter: Music Literacy Workshop to all elementary music specialist.Successfully spearheaded the county's music faculty to promote music literacy at the elementary level with the goal of being included in the 100 Best Music School Districts in the United States (one of only two counties awarded in Georgia).Invited by the National Boards for Professional Teaching Standards to join the National Assessment Development Team for national certification in music education; a sixteen member team comprised of professors of music and music specialist from across the United States. Re-directed music curriculum to focus on vocal music reading and transferring this skill set to instruments; piano/keyboard, Orff, tone bells, and rhythm instruments. Created Rhythm Warm-ups to strengthen focussing skills. Created Pitch Warm-ups to introduce visual and auditory pitch recognition. Created song formats: music, beats, rhythm, pitch numbers, solfeggio, and text for instructing music literacy in all grades (this would become the core of Music You Can Read®). Created center/stations to strengthen music literacy at the student's pace. Developed additional center/stations for creative expression (rhythm compositions), listening stations and games for repetition and mastery of music elements, symbols, and fundamentals.
