I lead a team of over 400 experts and professionals responsible for assets and infrastructure at Hydro Tasmania – Australia’s largest generator of clean, renewable energy. My team and I are custodians of an asset base that produces enough energy to power around 900,000 Australian homes and businesses each year and has a total value of over $4 billion. Our responsible asset management ensures that Hydro Tasmania can help to support Australia’s power needs for generations to come which is no small feat! The things that really light me up though are getting to meet incredible people, being part of innovative projects and getting to call some of the most beautiful places in the state “my office.” What drew me to Hydro Tasmania (and has kept me here for almost 20 years) is the sense of purpose that working here brings.Hydro Tasmania returns most of our profits to the Tasmanian people as a dividend to the State Government. My team’s work to build and maintain power stations and wind farms is helping my home state to build and maintain critical infrastructure like roads, schools and community spaces. I joined Hydro Tasmania in 2004 as a newly graduated electrical engineer. When I moved into my first leadership position six years later, I realised that managing people was a profession in its own right. I put as much effort into becoming a good leader as I originally put into becoming a good engineer. Over the last 13 years, I’ve continued to learn new skills, stay on top of new ideas, and find new ways to support my team. Within the Hydro leadership team I’m known for my future-focused outlook, my open and upfront people-management style, and my dedication to lifelong learning and providing a laugh or two!
