I completed IE’s 2-year graduate engineering scheme involving a number of placements in different areas of the firm. After the first year, my programme was tailored to focus on skills needed as a patent engineer. Principally to improve my knowledge of the technology to support patent identification and application.• Systems Engineering - developed an air cooled fuel cell system to replace backup diesel generators primarily on Indian telecoms towers.• Technology Development - data analysis of evaporatively cooled fuel cell stacks designed for automotive applications in order to identify the effect of mechanical tolerances on unit performance.• Intellectual Property (IP) - assessed the value of a section of IE’s patent portfolio.• Research - wrote software to automate the testing of fuel cell stacks.• I also completed shorter placements focused on project management and health & safety.
