He is passionate about building, participating in, and consistently improving high performance synergistic teams that solve the technical problems impeding the decarbonization of society.Career highlights include:– Leading a team of scientists and engineers, reduced the cost and production time of an ammonia synthesis catalyst by 70% and 50%, respectively, in only six weeks, while also converting a complicated flammable and toxic procedure to a patent-pending, water-based, “infinitely” scalable process. – Secured $500k in non-dilutive funding from the US DOE and signed an agreement with ExxonMobil to move the technology from lab to pilot production in a period of six months to commercialize a waste-to-fuel technology that was previously developed, patented, and published in high impact journals by myself and two colleagues.– Received the highest honors available to my title while at a national lab including a peer-nominated staff award (approximately 10 awarded per year from a pool of 2500), a chairman’s award (1 awarded per year per 100-person center), a Business Development award (for helping to secure a $100M/10y contract), and a mentee-nominated outstanding mentor award (less than 5% of mentors receive).– Secured $2.1M of a net $10M campus-wide capital allocation in a highly competitive environment for which $50M in projects were competing and sourced an additional $1.4M internal project funds.– Established an advanced catalyst testing lab to support over $4M/y in research projects that became one of six visited by the Lab Director on VIP campus tours to tout NREL’s capabilities to the Secretary of Energy, congressmen, and investors.Jesse completed a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with a minor in environmental science from the University of Notre Dame and a doctorate in chemical engineering with a minor in economics and business from the Colorado School of Mines.
