As part of the Media Experience Performance Engineering (MXPE) Team at Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, I tell stories with data. Millions of people enjoy Disney+, hulu, Star+ and ESPN+ in over 150 countries around the world each day, streaming content on tens of thousands of different device models on dozens of platforms. I analyze the enormous amount of metadata and performance telemetry that we collect in search of any issues or anomalies that might negatively impact our guest's quality of experience. Once I surface, triage and report on issues, I followup with product and engineering teams to help troubleshoot and resolve them. My specialty is complex root cause analysis, finding correlations that other's might miss, helping to both discover and solve mysterious issues. As subject matter experts in video playback, we also regularly report to leadership and a wide variety of stakeholders on general engagement and performance. Our team also works closely with Conviva, a third-party partner who develops the tools we use to browse and analyze video playback performance data, as good integration of their software with our apps is essential. One of the best parts about my job is that since complex problems can arise almost anywhere, I get to interact with teams across the company.

As one of the few people at UCSC at the time, who were interested in both Robotics and Marine Biology, I had the opportunity to volunteer through the UARC program to participate in a robotics project at NASA Ames. The goal of the project was to create an autonomous boat that would continuously monitor and record atmospheric and oceanographic data. I provided design concepts, did all of the 3D renderings, and came up with the name ‘SeaRover’. Over the course of the project, we also had the opportunity to visit the Office of Naval Research, and consult with some of the Navy’s top robotics experts.
