The Hunt Institute for Engineering & Humanity aims to shift the foundation of poverty through action and empowerment, not charity. The Hunt Institute strives to bring together the most talented minds from fields including engineering, science, business, international development and global economics, and combine their efforts with market forces to improve the standard of living for those living in extreme poverty. We focus on access to clean water; creating affordable shelter, including design justice for the marginalized; hygiene education and promotion; access to energy; and meeting basic infrastructure needs.

Consulting on applications, training, and research & development, with a primary focus on creating and establishing highly productive and cost effective urban food production facilities. •Responsible for research, development, and design of waste-to-resource methods.•Utilize expertise in often algorithmic derived processes based on hydroponics, hydro-organics, horticultural lighting, crop testing, pest/pathogen management, aquaculture, filtration processes, waste remediation, alternative energy, and energy transfer systems. •Create technical operation plans, identify community partners and potential investors, and foster increased awareness of aquaponics as a commercially viable business model.

Permaculture Certified through Daniel Halsey.Blitz Builder: In 2012 VGI installed 300 raised garden beds in people's yards throughout Milwaukee. In 2013, we beat that with a total of 503 beds. VGI's goal is to do 500+ beds in 2014 as well.

Having worked here 2 years prior to the unfortunate financial decisions that ultimately brought the business down, I worked with experienced staff in creating one of the first large-scale artificially-lit indoor/greenhouse outdoor urban aquaponics facilities.•Improved upon and maintained the 70,000 gallon aquaponics facility and 2 acre-7 greenhouse field, including design, construction, and maintenance of hydroponic, bio-filtration, lighting, and greenhouse systems.•Educated staff and volunteers regarding crop growth and water chemistry to maintain and increase conversion of aquaculture waste into organic nutrient sources for plant production.•Coordinated with composting and waste to resource staff, while managing horticultural lighting, water distribution, and energy transfer systems.•Documented, processed, and identified challenges, opportunities, and strategies in capacity building by developing relationships with community agencies, investors, political representatives, customers, and volunteers.

Applied quality assurance testing for retail targeted products relevant to indoor and greenhouse gardening, including heat-transfer systems, hydro-organic bio-filtration, and T5, LED , Induction and air & water cooled HID lighting.

Worked with L&L Kilns President Steve Lewicki, and L&L technician Rob Battey in creating the 'JD18-JH' model electric kiln and 'Quad Element Holder' system. The JD18-JH was designed to be capable of a much longer lifespan and greater terms between required maintenance (specifically heating element changes) compared to other electric kilns on the market. The prototype was also designed to be more accurate in achieving higher temperatures and thermal equilibrium without the problems posed by residual heat work. The JD18-JH provided the platform for launching the current 'JH-Series' crystalline kiln models. http://www.hotkilns.com/jh-series-crystalline-kilns__I also worked with Bartlett Instruments President, Dave Bartlett on creating and testing both potential and applied advancements for the V6-CF kiln controller (the motherboard at the heart of L&L's 'Dyna-Trol') and the K.I.S.S. data-logging software system.

Coordinated & curated an international event involving over 20 artists from Australia, Canada, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The event included a symposium and fine art exhibit.The symposium was created through communication with several of the lead artists, as well as sponsorship from technical leaders in the ceramic industry. Those sponsors with something specific to offer crystalline ceramists were selected, agreeing that they would also provide informative support as presenters. Sponsors included Laguna Clay Co., Geil Kilns, L&L Kiln Mfg., & Bartlett Instruments. This 2-day event included presentations from 14 artists, teachers, technicians, and researchers presenting to an audience of over 100 people.The ceramic fine arts exhibit, co-curated by Jason Stueber of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Monika Lin of the Kansas City Art Institute, was held at the Red Star Studio Ceramics Center. Full & half page ads ran in Ceramics Monthly (USA), Ceramics Review (UK), and Ceramics Technical (AUS) magazines.Two multiple page follow up articles were published in Ceramics Monthly and Ceramics Review. In the years following, seven equally successful ceramic events have stemmed from LatticeStructures.

Habitat for Humanity, Chapter Treasurer. Team member involved with building or renovating over 40 homes throughout the U.S., mostly in the Milwaukee and Madison areas.Habitat For Humanity Global Village, Ghana, Africa. In 3 weeks, our team constructed 7 houses, 2 kitchens, 3 compostable toilets, and a central meeting structure by mixing sand-crete (native sand + cement). Also aided in the design & build of channels to divert flood waters during the next wet season and supply irrigation to field crops during the drier months.
