Successfully managed the construction materials testing and inspection practice in Terracon's Phoenix area office that included management of 20+ staff made up of project managers, engineers, engineering technicians and special inspectors working of commercial, industrial, public works and transportation projects. Responsibilities included staffing, financial success of the department, safety leadership, business development, risk management, staff development, and project scoping, execution and quality. In this role, the materials department experienced double-digit year-over-year revenue growth during 2018.

Responsibilities included proposal writing, project management, geotechnical design, pavement design, performed and oversaw special structural inspection programs, oversaw materials testing programs and methods, prepared and reviewed technical documents, mentored junior staff, marketing and attended professional luncheons/conferences.

Managed, oversaw and performed construction material testing (CMT) and special structural inspection services for commercial and residential projects. Mentored and trained junior staff. Managed geotechnical engineering projects including: proposal writing, creating field investigation sampling and testing programs, reviewing boring/test pit logs, assigning laboratory testing, review and interpretation of laboratory test results, determining and providing recommendations based on field and laboratory test results, and preparing and review of geotechnical evaluation reports. Also performed; forensic evaluations on residential and commercial projects, slope stability analysis, shrinkage studies, shear wave studies, and fault/fissure investigations.

Performed field evaluation of project sites for geotechnical evaluations including logging boring/test pit/rock core explorations, soil classification and sampling, percolation testing, coordinating utilities locate and traffic control when needed and preparing site descriptions for geotechnical evaluation reports. Staff engineer responsibilities included takeoffs/profile of proposed MSE walls, MSE wall design, slope stability analysis using Slope/W and preparation of construction documents in AutoCAD.

Performed compaction testing of placed fill, sampled concrete, sampled hot-mixed asphalt, performed compaction tests on asphalt to determine roll patterns, asphalt coring, sampled aggregates for asphalt mix design, and observed oversized fill placement. Laboratory testing included sieve analysis, plasticity index, proctor, specific gravity, sand calibration, rice and Marshall unit weight.
