Analytical Chemist

Gsk

Lincoln, Nebraska, United States

Conducted HPLC analyses to drive Reference Material Group's aim of supplying global GSK network with reference materials. Analyses included methods outline in relevant monograph or procedure, based on location requirements. Opened and aided investigations into possible anomalous lab events.Updated and organized inventory of all on-hand HPLC columns for ease of use and column retrieval for analysts. This included labeling column protection container as well as the column itself while recording column details in a database that was made accessible to all lab members. Verified accuracy of backlog columns, collected non-inventoried columns in active use, adding those to the inventory.Fostered group-wide expertise in using HPLC instrument via analysis and crafted a user's guide for group members. Specifically a conductivity detector-HPLC coupled system which was in use by other groups in the same lab but with which the RMG did not have a great deal of use.

Sos Chemist I

Department Of Health And Human Services Nebraska

Lincoln, Nebraska Area

Supported core mission of Nebraska Public Health Environmental Lab, including evaluation of both drinking water and environmental water. Conducted independent analysis of drinking water under EPA methods: 531.1, 542, 549.2, and 913. Performed all aspects related to analyses including extraction, reagent preparation, and sample log-in and disposal.During my time at DHHS NE I was able to assist senior staff in the execution of the 2019 Summer Lead/Copper drinking water assay project in which over 1000 samples from all across Nebraska were analyzed. The high volume of this project was both challenging and gratifying in knowing that I was contributing to the health monitoring of so many of my fellow Nebraskans. While at this position I was promoted to a Chemist I position, adding to my responsibilities and capacities in lab. It was a great boon to be recognized and afforded a higher level of trust in the lab.I was given the ability to aid with the installation and evaluation of both a solid-phase extraction instrument (which greatly improved upon existing lab infrastructure) as well as a new calibration software for quarterly pipette calibration verification. For both of these tasks I produced a guidance manual for other users in the lab.

May 2019 - Jan 2021

Graduate Research Assistant

Fargo, North Dakota Area

Graduate student in Mukund Sibi Research Group; conducted personal research on kinetic resolution. Managed inventory, driving laboratory practice compliance, maintaining safety protocols, and presenting data to peers. Spent multiple semesters teaching.During my time as a member of the research group I led the reorganization of chemical inventory for the group. This involved updating the database we were using at the time as well as implementing a barcode system for ease of use. Hazardous and/or outdated chemicals were disposed of throughout the course of this project. Fire code compliance was another area I took a keen interest in and aided group efforts to relocate pyrophoric materials to a more suitable storage area. I graduated in December 2018 with an approved thesis, indexed in NDSU library and accessible to the public. This included a review chapter covering cinchona alkaloids as used in small molecule catalysis, and a summary of my research on the kinetic resolutions of secondary alcohols using chiral DMAPO catalysts.
