Trainee Executive
CurrentI am currently in my first year of the Trainee Executive Scheme based in the Social Security Department, primarily dealing with the Job Centre and the Policy and Legislation Team. The Scheme consists of a series of placements in different States Departments lasting approximately 6 months. These aim to develop customer service, administrative and research skills. Trainee Executive placements include dealing with members of the public, providing appropriate advice and assistance both in person and on the telephone. All placements involve co-ordinating and prioritising a busy workload. There is an aim to expose Trainee Executives to as much variety as possible such as replying to correspondence, writing reports as well as other general duties such as booking appointments, organising meetings and maintaining records.Some placements involve project work.The use the Microsoft Office suite for correspondence, reports and email. Some Trainee Executive placements will also involve compiling statistics and updating computer records. Officers will also berequired to use corporate software, i.e. SAP. There will have some exposure to financial matters, such as processing orders for travel or reconciling cash.There is a requirement to participate in role playing for the Recruitment and Selection Course run by staff of the HR Unit, PolicyCouncil.
