About Jesse Potts

I am Jesse David Lawrence Potts, an emerging leader in the field of Agriculture, Crop Protection, Improvement, and Sustainability. Over the past ten years, I've dedicated my expertise to this industry. My passion for Plant Improvement is deep-seated, as I harness sophisticated tools like Genetics and Genomics. My journey in this field has been marked by tackling the myriad of challenges that plants encounter, such as abiotic stresses. My strategies to combat these issues entail leveraging the power of biotechnology to conduct forward and reverse genetics. My academic journey, from obtaining a Diploma in Agriculture at the University of Trinidad and Tobago to my current pursuit of a Ph.D. in Horticulture at the University of Florida, has continuously fueled my commitment to improving Crop Production. I have utilized advanced research techniques and developed standard protocols for industry applications.Throughout my academic career, I have been recognized with several accolades, including the College of Agriculture and Life Science Dean's scholarship and induction into the prestigious Golden Key Honor Society and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. As a first-generation university and master's student at Tennessee State University, I was proud to graduate at the top of my B.Sc. program in Crop Science and Technology. My research findings have been channeled into several key publications. In collaboration with M. Ramdwar and V. Stoute, I explored the influence of commercial food-grade essences on the efficacy of metaldehyde for controlling the Achatina fulica snail species. Our findings were published in Cogent Food & Agriculture. I conducted a study on CRISPR Genome Editing of Transcription Factors related to aluminum toxicity in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum), which was published in ProQuest Dissertations & Theses. Alongside a team of researchers, we employed single-cell type proteomics to identify aluminum-induced proteomes in the apical meristem/cell division regions of tomato root-tips, published in the Journal of Proteomics. I also co-authored a study that identified heat-induced proteomes in meiotic pollen mother cells of Tomato 'Maxifort', published in Vegetable Research. As I continue to forge ahead in my career, my unwavering dedication to agriculture and plant improvement continues to be the driving force behind my work. This passion, coupled with my deep understanding and expertise in the field, ensures that I am well-positioned to make a significant impact in the world of agriculture and plant sustainability.
