Living in the cabin with the girls meant that the job was 24 hours a day.- Ensuring that all members of the group attended all meal times and activities. - Keeping track of where all group members were on camp at all times. - Being an approachable counselor to ensure that the group were all having fun.- Listening to any disagreements and mediating in a calm manner.- Going on a trip to the local Algonquin National Park and ensuring the group had fun whilst being safe. - Spent 3 weeks assisting with cooking activites for campers.

- In charge of a group of 15 secondary school leavers the summer after their GCSE's.- Main role is to lead the group through the four week NCS program with the help of an assistant team leader.- Help to teach the group about the wider world outside of education. - First week is spent at an outdoor activity center where the role of the Team Leader is to help the group integrate and get to know each other. - Week two is an independent living week where the group make all their own meals for the group, live away from home for a week (usually in university accommodation) and undertake workshops to learn about their community and be exposed to opportunities they may not have come into contact before. A lot of these workshops are charity based. At the end of this week the group pick a charity to sponsor for a social action project, a decisions that is heavily facilitated by Team Leaders as the project has to be realistic and attainable in the next two weeks. - The final two weeks are spent planning and undertaking the project. The Team Leaders role in these weeks is to make sure that the group are being critical of their project and thinking of all possible eventualities. - The Team Leader role also requires a huge amount of passion, empathy and care. Some of the young people that come onto the NCS program have difficult an challenging home lives, and more often than not during the program disclosures occur. Team Leaders have to be able to comfort this person in the moment, be able to offer reasonable advice in the moment (including signposting them to relevant services if possible) and inform the Wave Leader (manager) for the disclosure to be recorded. It is an incredibly sensitive role at times and really hones these interpersonal skills.
