    This research paper delves into the study of gravitational anomalies, particularly in the Wee Jasper and Parkes Way regions. Using the CG-6 gravimeter, we focused on measuring gravitational fields at Wee Jasper's Dip Cave, applying corrections with high-resolution DEM models. Our findings revealed a notable anomaly of approximately 500μGal, a significant deviation considering the gravimeter's sensitivity. To enhance the accuracy of our positional data, we incorporated an RTK system, capable of providing elevation accuracy up to 10mm.The study also extends to Parkes Way, where we conducted thorough terrain correction tests to validate the accuracy of our methods. Traditional underground detection methods often rely on electromagnetic signals, such as radar, but are limited due to material penetration issues and susceptibility to interference. In contrast, gravity detection, which remains unimpeded by material barriers, offers a more reliable alternative for underground exploration. Our research leverages this principle by analyzing gravitational anomalies that signal subterranean voids through variations in the gravitational field.Employing the Scintrex CG-6 gravimeter, renowned for its ability to detect minute gravitational changes, we conducted detailed surveys of two key underground structures: the Acton tunnel on Parkes Way and the Dip Cave in Wee Jasper. These field studies were instrumental in assessing the real-world effectiveness of the CG-6 and in broadening our understanding of gravity-based detection in complex subterranean environments. The paper outlines our methodologies, findings, and the overarching implications of using gravity-based techniques for the detection of underground structures.

    This project demonstrated the effectiveness of frequency dividers within the digital phase-locked loopsto scale down both the heterodyne frequency and frequency noise present in the interrogatedsignal. Using frequency dividers relaxed the bandwidth requirements that are currently placed onlasers used in heterodyne interferometric applications at present, especially when tracking highnoise signals.Analysis of the acquired data indicates that the use of this technology is viable for precision phasetracking. Its behavior was tested on many different noise profiles and was found to not add anysignificant noise to the system. In the most extreme case, the frequency signal of the free-runninglaser was reduced by a factor of 511. After processing the high-frequency information waspreserved.These results show that lower quality lasers-with lower upfront and running costs can be trackedwith the addition of a cheap frequency divider into the system. This lower entry level forheterodyne interferometry can allow for precise displacement measurements to be made inprojects with less scope and budget than space missions.If a similar device were to be implemented into the design of the Laser Interferometer SpaceAntenna (LISA), a great deal of unwanted noise could be rejected. However, for long-term use inspace its power and input signal strength requirements would have to be drastically lowered.

    Optimizing the metalisation layout in Bifacial Solar CellsBifacial Solar Cells (BSCs) are symmetric solar cell configurations that producephotocurrent when illuminated on either of its front or rear faces. Use of BSCs hasbecome increasingly widespread recently because of their increased efficiency at lowercost. The efficiency of these cells is based on the transparency and resistance of themetallisation layout used. This layout is formed from relatively large bus bars andsmall metal fingers, to make ohmic contact with the semiconductor junctions withinthe cell. Current commercial models quote typical efficiencies of 18%. In this reportI’ve investigated the relationship between a cell’s metallisation layout, to optimise itsefficiency for various operating conditions. This was achieved by abstracting theentire metallisation pattern to the number of fingers on the front and back of the cell.This formed a 2D parameter space to be optimised using a differential evolutionalgorithm in python. Various empirical temperature-irradiance relations were alsoused to adjust various contributions to the cell’s efficiency. The simulation was thentested and compared to the theory.
