Operations Specialist 3Rd Class

San Diego, California, United States

• Utilizing my secret clearance, I handled all the Secret and Confidential items including maps, logs, encryption, and decryption items. I also handled Top Secret materials under special authorization and was assigned and authorized to complete secret projects. • All pertinent mission objective information (combat or otherwise) came either directly or indirectly to the CIC and it was my job to work with the departments to collect and assimilate all these materials. As most traffic from Washington or our Pacific Command was sent in two or more parts to maintain secrecy, I had to work with a multitude of departments to collect information and assemble the overall mission picture and objective. I worked closely with the Radio Department as they received halves of secret messages. I decoded and assembled my department’s messages and, with the Radio Department’s portion of the message, combined and presented the entire message to my department heads. Included in this task were categorizing and logging all my materials and ensuring the destruction of outdated and sensitive security information.• Along with the Radio Department, I worked with the Deck Department, Sonar Department, Air Warfare, and Electronic Warfare Departments in tandem with my Surface Warfare Department to collect all information that was necessary to piece secret information together to decode, assimilate, and present to my superiors. • My technical expertise included the operation of the electronic and radio equipment. It was my duty to track surface, sub-surface, and air contacts and to verify whether they had hostile or non-hostile intentions. This required coordinating with the Sonar, Air, and Deck Departments (which were our lookouts) to establish a visual and electronic picture in the Combat Information Center so that our Captain, Admiral, or other Dignitaries could view our surroundings in real time. I also communicated with our nearest command for message authentication purposes.
