  • Spacecraft Mission Design– Leviathan
    Systems Engineer
Spacecraft Mission Design– Leviathan Sep 2015 - Dec 2015
During my senior year, I was involved in a space mission design project called LEVIATHAN. The team was composed of eight student engineers led by a systems engineer, a project manager and a chief engineer. LEVIATHAN stands for Lake Exploration Vehicle Investigating the Surface of Titan and Helping Assess the Nautical subsurface. The mission was to plan, design and develop subsystems for the mission to further investigate the methane-based atmosphere and climate of Titan. We had to design a spacecraft to travel to Titan, one of the moons of Saturn, with the goal of landing a floating probe onto its largest methane lake, Kraken Mare. Once there, we wanted to study the currents and tidal systems within Kraken Mare and determine the origin of Titan’s substantial atmosphere. As system engineer of the LEVIATHAN mission, I was responsible for drafting and presenting system requirements to obtain a preferred configuration of the subsystems to meet goals and objectives for the mission. I was also involved in designing the spacecraft's communication and CD&H subsystems, coordinating the personnel schedule, project timeline and presented trade study briefings. Overall, my team and I collaborated very well and our project was ranked among the highest.
