I envision a bright future for our state, where the mountains, forests, and streams are protected, respected, and sustainably leveraged for outdoor economic and community development, and benefits to quality of life, public health, and employment opportunities.Before joining the Smith OEDC, I served as Operations Manager for the West Virginia Land Trust – a statewide conservation non-profit – for the past 7 years, cultivating a professional approach characterized by strategic and responsive management of operations, development and oversight of financial and budgetary processes, and collaborative engagement in support of the organization's mission to conserve land and water resources essential to the identity and communities of our state. Leveraging a complementary skillset in recreation development project management, I provided decisive and insightful leadership and elevated capacity to identify, envision, cultivate, and develop recreational opportunities and critical partnerships as Project Lead for the Piney Creek Preserve in Beckley and Co-Lead for the Mammoth Preserve in Kanawha County. I joined the WVLT staff in 2017 as Operations Coordinator and in 2022 transitioned to Operations Manager. My work focuses on creating and implementing technology-based systems that prioritize ease of functionality and collaboration, as well as process/procedure management to smooth day-to-day operations. I am the go-to technology troubleshooter, and a general problem solver for the issues that arise across all program areas. During the pandemic I played a key role in keeping the staff connected as WVLT moved into remote work during the pandemic, and in 2022 began providing increased support and coordination for stewardship and preserve development efforts of the organization.In Late 2022, I became Project Lead for the Piney Creek Preserve, managing planning and development of recreation access and infrastructure in partnership with City of Beckley's Office of Outdoor Economic Development.In 2023, I joined WVLT's 5000-acre Mammoth Preserve Trail System Development Project team, providing support for planning, project management, and grant administration. The project focuses on planning and construction of a ~30-mile shared-use trail system on a former mountain top removal sight, which will provide high-quality, diverse non-motorized trails for mountain biking, hiking, equestrians, and other recreational user groups. The project is funded by a $2.8MM HUD/EDI CPF grant.
